Biocompatible Polymers

Depending on the way in which additively manufactured parts interact with the human body, they need to meet certain requirements. The high temperature and chemical resistance of some of our materials make them ideal for a great variety of applications and devices requiring biocompatibility. The materials are tested for cytotoxicity, sensitization, irritation, and acute systemic toxicity. To clarify if your biocompatibility requirements are met, talk to us.

Naturally, our SLS and FDR technology only require polymer material and laser power for production. The waiving of agents or binders in the production process reduces risks right from the start. Considering customer-specific influence (e.g. additives, manufacturing process), please be aware that the biocompatibility of a material does not allow any direct conclusion to be drawn about the biocompatibility of the produced part.

Ductile

PA 1101

The whitish, slightly translucent, additively manufactured parts made from biobased PA 11 are characterized by high impact resistance and elongation at break. They do not splinter even under high mechanical loads.

Components made from this pigment free polyamide 12 powder are white but appear slightly transparent. With properties otherwise comparable to PA 2200 – strength, rigidity and good chemical resistance – parts made from PA 2201 can be approved for use in the medical industry.

EOS TPU 1301

The parts made from this white material are extremely hydrolysis-resistant, with high resilience and good tribological properties. The part design influences the degree of flexibility of the parts purposeful.

Take-back Program for Used Polymer Materials & Parts
VIRTUCYCLE® takes back used polymer material and components, using 100 % sustainably sourced energy to transform powder into recycled high-performance injection molding granules. EOS carried out a Life Cycle Analysis, externally verified by TÜV Süd, which confirmed that 1 kg of polymer material converted into granules saves approximately 7 kg of CO2e compared to the raw material, in order to verify the positive impact of this recycling program.
